Formerly known as the Kowloon Walled City, a demolished community, the Kowloon Walled City was used as a military garrison during the Qing Dynasty and was denied access by the British government due to the British lease of the New Territories for 99 years. Slowly, the Kowloon Walled City formed a three-way zone. The exhibition, which consists of Galleries 1 to 4, introduced the lives and lifestyles of residents in the Kowloon Walled City before the demolition, including the recreation of the rooftops and narrow alleys of the Kowloon Walled City, and the introduction of the three industries that flourished in the Walled City, such as a small noodle factory, a family-style confectionery factory and an unlicensed dentist's clinic. Nos. 5 and 6 are interactive exhibition galleries where students can wave their hands in front of the exhibition screen to watch the changes and life of the Kowloon Walled City. The activities can effectively enhance students' understanding of Hong Kong, both ancient and modern, thereby enhancing their understanding of Hong Kong, their sense of belonging and their sense of national identity. |
