Supervisor's Message
1999 was no ordinary year for Wai Kiu College, for it marked the end of one phase and the start of a brand new era. It was from that year that we embarked on our goal of becoming a first-rate school of quality and diversity by joining the Direct Subsidy Scheme (DSS). To echo the educational reforms put forward by the EMB, we have been working painstakingly to raise the quality of both teaching and learning and have actively been promoting professional development for teachers.
We face many challenges nowadays. The shrinking birth rate and the competitive nature of the educational sector mean local schools are having a hard time enrolling students. Encouragingly, our efforts seem to be paying off. This is demonstrated by the overwhelming support from parents who show their trust in us by sending their children to Wai Kiu College. This recognition of our success, which is built upon on our flexibility and quality, will be an impetus for us to continuously raise the bar.
Thanks to the relentless endeavours of Dr. Chan Wai Kai and all our professional teachers, Wai Kiu College has successfully made a mark in the local educational landscape. But this is not the end. It is just the very beginning of our long and bumpy journey.
Schools are the nurturing ground for talents of all kinds. That is why we are dedicated to educating our students so that they will find their own roads; roads that all lead to success and a promising future.
At first glance, physical limitations may hinder our development, as our school building originates from the 60s. Yet this reality only serves to strengthen our resolve to become a first-rate school by upgrading our facilities year by year. Our new gymnastics room, campus TV as well as the state-of-art classrooms are the cases in point.
With regard to our students, I think there is room for improvement in their motivation. While attention should be paid to those who have problems focusing on their studies, senior students who have to sit for public examinations are also pushed even harder. I believe our teachers will spare no effort in helping all our students achieve their goals.
As the pillars of our school, teachers should keep abreast of the world and show themselves to be models for our students by broadening their minds. They should use their knowledge for the benefit of their students. In a nutshell, we share the same expectations for our students as their parents do.
On behalf of the board of Wai Kiu College, I would like to congratulate our recent graduates. Wherever you go and whatever you do, I hope you will remember the school motto-perseverance, courage, loyalty and diligence, as your guiding principles and strive for your dreams. |
